Human beings have a major problem with worshiping celebrities. Perhaps it makes sense because we were made to worship, but obviously when we worship created things instead of the Creator, there is a serious problem. In fact, this practice breeds in us the desire to be worshiped ourselves and we think our value is based on our acclaim. It is not.
Take for example the 12 Apostles. Not all the Apostles received the acclaim that Peter, James, and John received. Yet Jesus did not choose 3 Apostles, He chose 12. Jesus personally chose people who were to be unheralded and mostly forgotten over time. In fact, the majority of the Apostles received very little acclaim in this world even though they faithfully fulfilled one of the most important human duties of all time.
Listen to this sermon to see that we do not need to be glorified by other people to be of value to Jesus: The Apostles: Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, & Simon.
