John the Baptist was such a great man that Jesus once said, “Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist!” (Matthew 11:11).
Yet in Luke 7:18-23, we see that John the Baptist was filled with doubt about who Jesus was. Christians today often feel like they are not allowed to have doubt in their belief in Jesus Christ. Other Christians might look upon those who share their doubts negatively for this reason. But the Bible shows us that doubt is a part of faith.
Better than that, the Bible shows us in this story how to properly deal with our doubts. Jesus’ response to John the Baptist’s doubt reveals exactly how we are to escape from our own doubt. Listen to the sermon, Escape from Doubting Castle, to learn about legitimate doubt and what to do about it.
